In-Kind Donations

Your in-kind donations to Joy Thrift can make a real difference. We know it may be easier to drop off at chain stores, but we appreciate your donations much more. 

You are welcome to drop off items anytime during our store hours, Tues to Sat, 11-7. We have a small loading dock in the back of the building with a doorbell. You can also bring them through the front
door, whichever is easier. We don't do pickups, but we occasionally make
limited, case-by-case exceptions. 

We accept most items except large furniture, equipment, appliances, mattresses, cribs, and perishable food.

Collection Drives

If you can organize a collection drive, we'd be grateful. Collection drives keep our store well stocked, help customers access quality items at affordable prices, and strengthen our community impact. Several churches partner with us annually to host drives—a
meaningful way for them to build community while supporting Joy Thrift's work
across Detroit and Hamtramck.

How Does it Work?

We'll provide available dates for you to choose from. We'll send a customizable marketing flyer you can personalize with your event date, purpose, and details on which items we accept and don't accept. Select a convenient drop-off location that's accessible for a week or two. If space is tight, we can arrange same-day pickup and delivery to our store. If you can deliver the items, that's wonderful, but it's completely optional. We always appreciate volunteers to help unload at our Hamtramck location. Once everything arrives, we'll unload your donations and celebrate your generosity. Within a week, you'll receive a thank-you card recognizing everyone who helped make this happen.

Volunteer

When you volunteer at Joy Thrift, you make an impact on the community. People always
thank us for the lower prices we maintain. We can do that because everything in
the store is donated, and we have amazing volunteers. We would love for you to
join our fun community. 

How Does it Work?

If you're new to volunteering with us, we require a short application. After you submit it, our volunteer coordinator will reach out to learn more about you and explore opportunities that match your interests. They'll schedule a time to meet and work alongside you on your first day,
ensuring you have all the information you need. After your first day, we'll check in to gather your feedback and establish an ongoing volunteer schedule that works for you. We require a minimum commitment of 3 hours a month. Volunteers receive a 50% discount at the store.

Tax receipts

We will automatically email a tax receipt for gifts of $100 or more. For gifts under that amount, please email info@onenewhumanitycdc.org to request a receipt.
